The WIT program travelled to San Marcos on Thursday, 4-28-2022, to tour Texas State and explore the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment.  The students began their day at Texas State University with an admissions presentation, covering the basic admissions procedure as well as current degree program offerings.  Students were also informed about various financial aid options should they choose to attend Texas State.  Following the admissions presentation, students went on a tour of the campus where dorms, academic buildings, dining options, libraries, and various campus landmarks were shown.  Upon completion of the tour, students were able to ask current Texas State University students questions regarding life as a college student.  

Students then travelled to the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment to explore wildlife and conservation of water.  Students journeyed over a 1/10 of a mile floating boardwalk through a wetland habitat.  Students learned about the various plant and animal life found in the wetland and their purpose in maintaining the environment.  Students were able to see "Turtle Island", where multiple turtle species were sunbathing,  as well as an active beaver dam.  Upon completion of the wetlands tour, students participated in an activity in which they analyzed bug life within the water to gauge water quality.  The level of water pollution in the lake was determined by the number and species of bugs found in the samples.  Students were also able to explore a recently developed aquarium center which contains many threatened and endangered species, as well as different artifacts discovered in the lake.  To conclude the trip, students were able to explore Discovery Lake by riding in a glass-bottomed boat.  These boats provide the rare opportunity to view underwater life and over 1,000 active springs.
