Biology
I graduated with honors from McAllen High School in McAllen, TX. I then attended the University of Texas at Austin and then later transfered to an affiliate school The University of Texas Pan-American.
I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Education with a specialty in science and a minor in chemistry and biology. I have teaching certificates in k-12 special education, composite science k-12.
This is my 24th year of teaching. I began my career in McAllen where I taught science at the middle and high school. After teaching in McAllen for 19 years, I moved to central Texas and taught at Temple high school for one year. This is my fourth year teaching biology at Troy High School.
I have been teaching science for 24 years. I began my teaching career in McAllen, Texas. I taught resource math and science at Nikki Rowe High School for 6 years. I then had the opportunity to teach middle school for the same district. I spent 7 amazing years in the middle school and started a Sciene Olympiad team that qualified for state the very first year we competed. I then had the opportunity to move back to high school where I taught biology, aquatic science, chemistry, physics and MYP biology. While at Lamar Academy, I also started a Science Olympiad team that consistently competed at the state level. My family decided to relocate, and I followed them to Central Texas where I took a job teaching biology at Temple High School for one year. I have been teaching biology at Troy High School ever since.
I just got married over the summer but haven’t officially changed my last name. I will be doing that later in the year. My last name will change to LaFevers-Baker.
In my free time away from school, I am an avid hiker, world traveler, and mixed media artist. During my travels I like to photograph the science I see in nature. I use those images in my course to help students see the science in action.
